The only competitors of Aubusson rugs were the Savonnerie carpets but the royal producer made them. Only the king was has right to own or sell the Savonnerie carpets - that fact helped Aubusson rugs to develop. Designs and motifs of Aubusson rugs imitated Savonnerie carpets and that made them very popular among wealthy Europeans. Aubusson rugs were the most known rugs in the 17th and the 18th century. |
